 Step 11 (10–20 Minutes)
Before completing this session’s
Called to Be Priest, Prophet, and King feature, call on volunteers to share summaries of their research on organizations that defend human life from Lesson 3.
Have the young people read Called to Be Priest, Prophet, and King
and highlight key points. Call on volunteers to tell about faithful people they know and the gifts of the Holy Spirit they see at work
in the lives of these people. Then have the young people respond to the questions in their journals and write their action plans.
Called to Be Priest, rophet, and King
PA
s baptized Catholics, we have a share in the common priesthood of the faithful, which allows us to participate in the work of Christ.
Think about faithful people you know. What gifts of the Holy Spirit have you seen in action in their lives? It might be the reverence, or piety, of your aunt who gets up early so she can attend Mass before work.
Or it might be the courage, or inner strength, of a neighbor who uses his time and pickup truck to help others in the community donate vegetables from their gardens to a food pantry.
How can you follow the examples of these people? What gi of the Holy Spirit will you use to build up your community? Write a plan of ac on in your journal.

8 Lesson 4
          SH L4-PRESS V6_6-6.indd 8 6/8/17 7:51 AM
  Step 12 (30–60 Minutes)
Explain the assignment in the Called to Serve feature. Note that this feature only appears in the Catechist Guide.
Called to Serve: Sharing in the Ministry of Catechists
Help the young people learn about the ministry of catechists while also evangelizing younger children. Begin by sharing with the group some insights about the ministry of catechists and about why you feel called to take part in the ministry. Then tell the young people that they will be making presentations to children in First Penance
and First Eucharist preparation classes. Brainstorm some of the topics covered in preparation for these sacraments.
Organize the young people into small groups. Have each group plan a lesson on one of these two sacraments. Explain that
the groups should plan for a 15–20 minute
lesson that includes verbal instruction and one creative activity, such as an art project or a skit. Alternatively, you may wish to have the small groups create skits through which they help the children learn something important about the Sacrament of Eucharist or Penance. Arrange with your parish’s catechists to have the young people make their presentations.
