                                    Your Journey of Initiation
After the rst centuries of Christianity, the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation were celebrated separately at different times in the life of Christians.
For those born or raised in Latin Rite Catholic families, Baptism is usually celebrated in infancy, and the Eucharist is celebrated at the age of reason, traditionally de ned as age seven. Baptized Catholics may celebrate Con rmation starting at the age of reason.
At Baptism, your parents promised to raise you in the Catholic faith. They promised to help you see the world with the eyes of faith—to recognize the presence and power of God, the Father; the forgiving love of God, the Son; and the comforting, unifying force of God, the Holy Spirit. They promised to help you see death as an entrance into eternity.
In Con rmation, you are given
an opportunity to publicly
reaf rm these baptismal promises yourself. You will be asked to take responsibility for seeing God, the world, and yourself through the eyes of faith. In Con rmation, you are invited to share this unique faith. Con rmation is a sacramental celebration of your relationship with God—a relationship that challenges you to see the deeper meaning of human life and love through the grace and faith offered to us by the Church.
6 Lesson 4
      I Respond to God’s Word
Read the following passage from Scripture and then write a paragraph describing a me when you experienced the kindness and generous love of God.
But when the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared,
not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy,
he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the holy Spirit,
whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior,
so that we might be jus ed by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.
—Titus 3:4–7
