In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells about a king who keeps inviting guests to his son’s wedding feast until he fills the hall. Matthew dwells on the fate of the guests who refuse the king’s invitation. Good News stresses instead the desire of the king to share his happiness with everyone around him.
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
God invites all people to belong to his family, the Church. He wants all people to share in the great feast of the Eucharist. Receiving Holy Communion at Mass prepares us to sit at God’s table in Heaven.
“Those who receive the Eucharist are united more closely to Christ. Through it Christ unites them to all the faithful in one body—the Church” (CCC, 1396).
Sharing the Lesson with Families
Encourage parents to look at their child’s Mass booklet and discuss how Sunday Mass is a celebration. Suggest that families recommit to keeping Sunday holy.
