In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says, “[W]hoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
Every one of us is burdened by the crosses of this life. Some people’s burdens are more noticeable than others, but we all have them. When life gets difficult, we each have a choice to make. We can either share our cross with Christ and follow where he leads or try to carry our cross alone, thinking a loving God wouldn’t give us such a burden so he either doesn’t exist or doesn’t care.
I honestly don’t know how those who carry their crosses alone manage. The gift of faith—in good times and bad—is what makes all the difference! May we persevere in difficult times and allow them to strengthen our faith in the One who carried the heaviest Cross for us all. And let’s pray for those who think they have to carry on without God’s help.
