FROM OUR EDITORS— June 18 • Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

Solemnity-of-the-Body-and-Blood-of-Christ.In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says, “I am the living bread…. [T]he bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” And this is what we celebrate on the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). God gives us himself in the form of a dietary staple.

And there’s nothing better than good bread. Sometimes a restaurant’s bread is the most memorable part of a dinner out—that’s a good thing since we might fill up on it before our entrée arrives! And who can resist the wonderfully warm and yeasty smell of fresh bread right out of the oven? (My husband would tell you that it makes the best toast!)

God chose to become our bread. May we find the sustenance and nourishment we both need and seek in the bread from Heaven, Christ’s very Body and Blood in the Eucharist. For it is infinitely better than the best of earthly breads!
